History of Hsinpu Junior High School in Hsinchu County

The origins of Hsinpu Junior High School can be traced back to the early days following Taiwan's restoration. Local visionaries, concerned about the development of the area and particularly the advancement of education, which is essential for the nation's long-term progress, proposed the establishment of Hsinpu Junior High School. A preparatory committee was promptly formed, led by then-town mayor Mr. Pan Jin-Huai, who also served as the chairman. Mr. Zhan Rui was responsible for overseeing the project. They decided to use the left side of the town hall’s elementary school (a former Japanese school, now a market) as a temporary campus. After securing sufficient faculty and resources, the school admitted 110 male and female students, holding an opening ceremony on October 26, 1946. Thus, Hsinpu Junior High School was born.

On November 8 of the same year, Mr. Chen Jun-Lou, who was residing in Japan, was invited by local enthusiasts to serve as the school's first principal. With Mr. Chen at the helm, school affairs gradually took shape with significant assistance from local gentry. A permanent campus was selected in Zhangshulin, Tianxinli, which already had three classrooms from the Hsinpu Elementary School's branch. Under Principal Chen's meticulous planning, the campus was revitalized, with twelve new classrooms completed by the fall of 1947, laying the foundation for the school.

Time flew, and under Principal Chen's leadership, the school’s infrastructure and facilities were progressively enhanced. By 1963, two additional buildings were completed, standing tall and impressive. The student body grew annually, and the school flourished. In July 1955, a Guanxi branch was established, followed by a Zhubei branch in 1957. The school was also instructed to add a high school division to its curriculum (later separated due to a government policy in 1968), producing seven graduating classes with a total of 399 students. In 1968, the school was restructured into a junior high school, and began preparations for Zhao Men Junior High School. With the advent of nine-year compulsory education, the school expanded to 40 classes, nearly 100 faculty members, and over 2,000 students.

In the fall of 1973, Principal Chen retired and was succeeded by Mr. Xie Wei-Yue from Emei Junior High School. Principal Xie, a passionate educator, made significant improvements, including encouraging teacher development and improving teaching methods. He also promoted cleanliness, earning the school a model status in the county.

In August 1983, Principal Xie was transferred to Zhubei Junior High School and was succeeded by Mr. Fan Bing-Zhao from Emei Junior High School. Principal Fan, recognized nationally for his outstanding contributions, led the school with a hands-on approach, focusing on stability and efficiency. His efforts further propelled the school’s growth.

In the fall of 1988, Principal Fan was transferred to Hsinchu City, and Mr. Xie Nan-Rong took over. Principal Xie, known for his dedication and experience, led the school to numerous achievements. On December 1, 1990, President Lee Teng-Hui visited the school, marking a significant honor in its history. In 1993, the girls' tennis team won the national championship and participated in a competition in Hawaii, highlighting the school's athletic excellence.

On August 1, 1995, Principal Xie was transferred to Zhudong Junior High School and succeeded by Mr. Zhan Hui-Nan from Baoshan Junior High School. Principal Zhan’s proactive and hands-on approach led to significant improvements in teaching and extracurricular activities, earning accolades for the school.

On August 1, 2001, Principal Zhan was appointed to Hukou High School and was succeeded by Mr. Huang Rui-Bao from Zhongzheng Junior High School. Principal Huang, known for his humility and dedication, supported various initiatives, leading the school to numerous athletic achievements.

In August 2005, Principal Huang was transferred to Shiguang Junior High School and succeeded by Mr. Chen Neng-Sen. Principal Chen emphasized balanced development and life education, significantly beautifying the campus. Under his leadership, the table tennis team won several national championships.

In February 2008, Principal Chen was transferred to Zhubei Junior High School, and Ms. Zhang Ming-Ying from Zhaomen Junior High School took over. Principal Zhang fostered a nurturing environment, enhancing educational standards and promoting cultural activities.

In August 2012, Principal Zhang was transferred to Boai Junior High School, and Ms. Zhong Min-Jing from Zhaomen Junior High School took over. Principal Zhong promoted reading and physical education, achieving numerous recognitions for the school.

In August 2016, Principal Zhong retired, and Mr. Wu Bing-Rui from Zhongxiao Junior High School was appointed. Principal Wu focused on lifelong learning principles, aiming to enhance student learning outcomes and teaching efficiency.

In August 2020, Principal Wu was transferred to Baoshan Junior High School, and Ms. He Mei-Hui from Jinghua Junior High School took over. Principal He emphasized local environmental awareness and community engagement, promoting the integration of school and community education activities.

Celebrating its 73rd anniversary, the school has produced 72 graduating classes, with many alumni achieving remarkable success. The school continues to uphold its traditions and strive for excellence, aiming to serve the community and nation. This history is recorded to encourage all students to remember their alma mater and strive for its glory.
